5 Best Blogs Written by Homeowners

Last year, we did a post on the 5 best home improvement blogs.  These blogs are wonderful resources that provide valuable information on product reviews, how to projects and green remodeling.

While some like the nitty gritty side of home improvement, I, personally, love getting an inside look of people&;s homes.  Remodelaholic was mentioned in that previous blog and it got me thinking to other great blogs that chronicle homeowners during their home improvements.

While we all could use some professional advice, it is also fun to read blogs from people who you can relate to.  The blogs below feature people remodeling their actual homes and how they tackled those projects.  Most projects turn out great, others are learning experiences.

Here are my favorite blogs that feature real people remodeling their actual homes:

A husband and wife team, along with their adorable daughter Clara, transform their old house into a home perfect for a young family.  They are currently working on their second home but their blog features projects from both homes.  Their budget breakdown lists are great because you can see just how thrifty this family is.  Young House Love also features fun decorating ideas along with remodeling projects.  I am in love with the homemade curtains- so fun!

MerryPad

This blog is written by Emily, a DIY&;er that is a sucker for the weathered, antique and reclaimed.  It is always interesting to see how she transforms the old and outdated into something that is fresh and modern.  Emily is incredibly creative and thrifty so it is great to see her make something fun out of nothing.  While she tackles projects both inside and outside her home, she also features fun decorating projects as well.  She operates the blog full time, so there is always something new posted each day!

In her spare time, first time homeonwer Sarah turns her 1980&;s Atlanta home into a young, modern home.  Like most people, she works full-time and then spends weekends on her home so I find her very easy to relate to.  I love the lessons learned section that focuses on home improvement terminology and DIY tips and projects.  It is great to hear what someone would do differently the next time they do a project.

DIY Diva

Kit spends 5 years updating her first home and then sells it for one that requires even more work than the first one.  She loves home improvement so much, she became a licensed contractor!  The updates she did to her first home (Harrison Rd) are beautiful so I can&;t wait to see what the new property (Memorial) will look like when completed.  Bonus: she loves power tools and knocking down walls!

It&;s Great to be Home

After buying their first home in 2008, Liz and her husband got the remodeling bug big time.  Not only do they continue to remodeling their own home, they are currently on their third flip.  The after pictures for all 4 homes are gorgeous plus they have an inspiration section which showcases their inspirations by room.  Great blog if you are in need of a little home improvement eye candy.

I know there are tons of blogs out there dedicated to people updating and remodeling their homes.  Feel free to share your favorites in our comments section.
