Recycle your Roof with a Certified Green Roofer

Green RoofingDid you know that 11 million tons of shingle waste is generated each year?

According to GAF, the typical roof contains about 30-35 squares.  This breaks down to 7,000 lbs of materials, or 3.5 tons.  Most roofing companies let this sit in a land fill.  Your roof could be taking up 5 cubic yards of space, which is the equivalent of a more than one family’s yearly trash!

Moonworks, however, is a GAF certified green roofer.  What does this mean?  Instead of your roof sitting in a landfill, the asphalt roofing shingles will be recycled into pavement for roadways.  So, how much road can your roof pave?  According to GAF, the average roof described above could pave 53 feet of road!  What a great example of how each green decision you make can greatly impact the environment.

How does the recycling program work?

Your old roof will be removed and the asphalt shingles will be separated from the rest of the roofing materials (metal, wood, etc.).  The asphalt shingles will then be picked up at your home and brought to the recycling center.  Once at the center, the shingles are grounded into particles for paving material.

What do I have to do?

Nothing. The entire recycling process is coordinated on your behalf.  Easy and good for the environment, what is better than that?

Want to go that extra step in the green direction?  Moonworks also offers GAF Cool Series Shingles, which can save you up to 20% in energy costs.
